If the car owner receives a ticket (speeding, parking, toll fees) that the driver received during the rental, then the owner will need to transfer liability on to the driver. This way ownership of the ticket will be transferred to driver and the car owner will not be held liable for it anymore. On the back of the ticket, there is a “Transfer Liability” option: please fill out the details of the driver on the form. Please download the rental contract from the dashboard to get the driver details and mail the contract along with the ticket to the address provided.
If you cannot find the Transfer of Liability option on the ticket, then please go to the issuing agency’s website.
If Transfer of Liability is not available: Certain cities do not have the option to transfer liability (Chicago, D.C., VA, MD et al). In this case, car owner will need to submit photos (front and back) of the ticket, along with the driver name and rental dates. If the driver fails to pay the owner
directly, we alert our internal claims agent to start claims process. Only when funds are redeemed irrecoverable, HyreCar will backstop charges.
HyreCar will contact the driver to pay for these tickets directly to the owner. Submit them by going to the Dashboard -> Contact Support. If HyreCar charges the driver for the ticket fees, then there is an additional admin fee of $10 on the driver.
Note: HyreCar does not reimburse for late fees. If transfer of liability is not available in your state, then it is recommended that the car owner pays for the ticket upfront and send the receipt of payment along with the ticket photos (front and back) to HyreCar in order to get reimbursed.
