If your car is currently late, we recommend that you send the renter a civil demand letter.
If your car has not been returned by the deadline communicated to you, you must proceed with reporting the car stolen as soon as possible in order for HyreCar to continue assistance in recovery efforts.
To initiate theft recovery for your vehicle, you must send a civil demand letter to the renter and report your car stolen to police. This must be done by the car’s registered owner. We recommend taking prompt action.
Before going to police, please print out the following items:
- A copy of the rental agreement.
- A screenshot of the rental dashboard showing when the rental was due back.
- A copy of the renter’s driver’s license
- A copy of the civil demand letter sent to the renter via certified mail.
- A copy of the certified mail receipt.
- A copy of your vehicle registration showing ownership of the vehicle.
If you have not already done so, print the civil demand letter form and fill it out. Then send it to the driver. When sending the demand letter, please make sure to use certified mail with the United States Postal Service, then take a picture of the green receipt they provide for your records.
You’ll also be required to provide a copy of the theft report and the civil demand letter to HyreCar. We’ll pass the information along to our theft recovery vendor, and update you if they are successful in locating and/or recovering your car.
